This is a guide aimed at new Tamers, those who are inexperienced in the art of taming. Consider it a beginners guide to the ins and outs of DejiMon. Let's begin at the beginning.
Let's assume you have done as what many of us have done and received a DejiTama from the Megalithic Mainframe. Congratulations, you have joined the ranks of Kings and Champions! D.T.U. will always accept new recruits who are eager to learn and ready to fight.
Your Dejimon will always begin as an egg. The length of time a Tama takes to hatch greatly varies and depends upon your own skill level, as well as the previous history of your DejiMon. Considering this is the beginning, it may take anywhere between one day and one month to hatch. From personal experience, Dinosaur type and Bird type take less time to hatch than any other type. You will no doubt experience similar results of your own over time.
Once your DejiMon has hatched, take time to identify and evaluate it. Healthy species qualities include bright eyes, clean teeth (if any) and the skin/coat/feathers/scales should be clear and free of any flaking or molting. Once you are sure of what you have and that it's healthy, you are ready to proceed.
(If by any chance your first DejiMon is NOT healthy, please proceed to section named Care Mistakes/Battle Injuries)
Training for baby level DejiMon should begin with low intensity work outs with frequent periods of rest. Babies are not able to exert themselves for long periods of time and will become fatigued easily at first. Over time, slowly increase the effort level required and you will see vast improvements. This may go without saying, but many inexperienced Tamers attempt to "jump in at the deep end", and cause irreparable damage to their DejiMon. Mistakes you make now WILL follow you for the rest of your DejiMon's life, and all of his cycles afterwards! It will take a long time to right your wrongs, so arming yourself with this knowledge ahead of time is the only way to prepare yourself for the ardeous journey ahead of you.
Assuming all goes well and you don't make too many mistakes, brace yourself for the day that your DejiMon evolves for the first time. It may take many weeks, but this time will decrease with experience. The Baby II stage is thankfully very similar to Baby I, and is more of a stepping stone on the path to Child. You will find that your DejiMon requires much more feeding than before. Its appetite will only increase with age, so be sure to stock up. DejiMon will eat almost anything, so you may find you're able to keep it on dinner scraps for the time being. Just be aware that this is not a permanent solution.
After this stage comes the one you have all been waiting for; Child. Again, this may take many weeks, sometimes months. By the time your DejiMon reaches the Child level, you will have a good idea what kind of personality it has. Take heed now, if you have a reckless or rebellious DejiMon, you will need to bring them in line now. Bad DejiMon that lack discipline in the Child stage become bad Adults--by that point they will be much larger, and much harder to command.
You should completely revamp your training routine for this stage. Look for high intensity training workouts specifically tailored for your type of DejiMon. If your DejiMon flies, create an aerial assault course. If your DejiMon swims, an underwater obstacle course is key. It pays to work on your DejiMon's weaknesses at this stage too. Whatever your DejiMon is naturally adverse to, slowly acclimatize it to this.
While you are technically able to battle at any stage, now is the safest time to start. Child DejiMon are much less likely to be fatally wounded and return to DejiTama--or worse, the Mainframe. Be sure to match your DejiMon carefully, picking your fights carefully is the key to increasing experience while still ensuring safety.
The next stage is Adult. Yet again, it may take many months. The shortest time I have had so far is 4 months in total under intensive training, but it's much more realistic to aim for a 6 Month to 1 Year goal. Unless you have disregarded my advice thus far, you should have a powerful, obedient DejiMon, ready for battle and willing to fight. Training at this stage is optional. You may continue as an Adult until your DejiMon naturally completes his life cycle. You will, however, not reach Perfect without continuing your training routines religiously. You will also need to succeed in many battles before your DejiMon gains enough experience to progress to the next level, anywhere between 50 and 200.
Your final stage is Perfect. You have reached the ultimate stage in Taming your DejiMon. There's nothing to do now except continue to maintain your DejiMon's skill levels and continue to defeat your enemies. Congratulations. When your DejiMon is ready, he will revert to a DejiTama and the cycle can begin anew. Next time, you will find it a lot easier to progress, and your DejiMon will continue to recognise you as his Tamer from birth. That's not to say it will not rebel--but you will most likley not have to go through the bonding stage during Baby I.
TRAINING IDEAS
I can't tell you what will work best for your DejiMon. What works for some will cause others to fail. This is mostly trial and error, so prepare for some stress during the developement stages of your routine. Don't be afraid to shake things up a bit even after you find one that works--you don't want your DejiMon to become comfortable.
Strength training: Weights play a key role. Have your DejiMon aim to lift or drag at least half of their own bodyweight. Boulders of varying sizes work well, and can be attached via harness to ensure even wild and untamed DejiMon get the full benefits of the workout.
Speed/Endurance training: Obstacle and assault courses are perfect for testing speed and endurance, while still continuing to test the other skills.
Defense/Evasiveness training: If you have access to any sporting equipment, ball launchers such as those used in batting cages are perfect for this. Alternatively, you can throw projectiles by hand to teach your DejiMon how to dodge and defend effectively. Be sure to pace this at your DejiMon's level, throwing large projectiles may seriously damage your DejiMon.
Intelligence training: DejiMon are naturally very wild and hard to teach. This will get better with time, but you may want to focus on teaching intelligence skills early on. It's possible to teach them the meanings of basic words and even numbers and colors, as long as you begin from infancy. It's a lot harder to teach a fully grown DejiMon, so try not to neglect this.
CARE MISTAKES / BATTLE INJURIES
If your DejiMon develops badly, or has been wounded in battle, there are a number of things you must do immediately to slow the spread of damage. Battle wounds can continue to fester and grow long after the battle has finished, so basic first aid skills are incredibly important.
First; address the wound by cleaning it, applying disinfectant, and bandaging if possible. Change the dressing daily and reapply disinfectant regularly. If the wound is in an awkward place, such as a joint, it is possible to leave it unwrapped assuming you keep your DejiMon enclosed in a clean and sterile place until it heals. If your DejiMon is seriously hurt, it may return to the Megalithic Mainframe. If this happens, your DejiMon may never return, even as a DejiTama. No one is 100% sure what happens when a DejiMon returns... If you want to remain as a Tamer, be a responsible Tamer. Never let your DejiMon battle to this point.
If your DejiMon has been born with a defect as a result of a care mistake or a random genetic trait, you must be careful to discipline gently but firmly, and feed a balanced diet of carefully selected foods, rich in healthy oils and fats. DejiMon will require a lot of protein at the best of times, but especially so if they are born with a defection.
This guide is still a WIP, but feel free to direct any inquiries or additions to posts below. I hope that even in its incomplete stage it can aid someone in some way.
